Resources

We offer a variety of resources in the Marie Hart Library. Currently we are working to move our unique local records to an online members area. Below you'll find information about many of the resources we hold. If you can't find what you are looking for, try using the search feature located in the top right section of this page. For details of the library opening times jump over to the Library Page.

Just Starting Out?

The Marie Hart Library is the repository for our local records and resources. Over the years our library has expanded and now holds a wealth of information from across Australia including historical and pioneer records, war records, shipping lists, probate records, landholder returns, colonial secretary papers, cemetery books and exchange journals including those from other English speaking countries. You will also find books on our local area, microfiche, CD's, exchange journals, and computers. Members have free access to the genealogical website Find My Past.

If you are just starting out, we are offering a free online Introduction to Family History 10 week program for you. This is a self-paced course that was originally published in our local Newspaper each week.

You can also read the helpful article by President Richard Goss in The Ballina Wave here.

Are You Researching a Local Family?

Do You Live Out of the Area?

If you are researching a family local to our area but are not able to visit our Library you are welcome to send us a research request. Our Research Officer will conduct research for only $15.00 per hour for the initial search. If you become a member you will receive your first hour of research for free.

Our Award-Winning Journal

For the past 37 years our local journal "The Cedar Log" has published a wealth of family history information for our members. In 2018 we were honoured to win the Nick Vine Hall Award from AFFHO for a Journal produced in 2017. The complete collection of "The Cedar Log" from the 1st Edition in September 1984 has been digitised and is available for purchase on a USB Flash Drive.

A copy of the March 2018 edition of "The Cedar Log" is available for you to download for free.

Members Interests

Some of our members have reached the stage in their research where they would like to make contact with other people who may be searching for the same family. The Member’s Interest List is an online resource to help genealogists and family historians find others researching the same surnames in our regional area and beyond. We have put together a Member's Interests List to find other family researchers. Download the full list of members interests below. Once you have found a surname of interest email us at secretaryrtfhs1@yahoo.com to be put in contact with our member.
